Good tasting coffee but a machine with flaws

We purchased the DeLonghi Esclusivo DCM485 10 cup coffee maker several months ago as we needed a new machine and wanted to try out a thermal carafe for a change. DeLonghi has a good name in the coffeemaker industry so we decided to buy one of their popular products. Not so sure that was a good idea.

For starters, there are some positive features for this coffee maker. It does brew very delicious coffee and the thermal pot keeps it quite warm for hours. We have left the carafe out all day and still had warm coffee that night. That is quite remarkable and a nice change from our prior machine. Also, the water reservoir is easily removed and simple to fill. No complaints in that department.

Now for the negatives and these are big. The lid seems to regularly get clogged up in the small holes on top. If you are not right there when it happens you will come back to a nice mess on the counter. We find that if we don’t make 100% sure the holes are clean each time that this will happen. Additionally, the clock is not very intuitive to use. We have a hard time setting the timer and have woke up to find that it didn’t begin brewing when we wanted. That is quite annoying to say the least. Once you get the timer where you want it, it’s best to just leave it alone or you will mess it up.

While the Delonghi does brew very good coffee and keep it warm for a long time, the other problems we have with it keep us from recommending it with a glowing review. It’s ok for the money but not the best there is out there. Hopefully they address the problems with the Esclusivo as it is a gorgeous machine.
