Brews a good pot of coffee

We recently purchased the Cuisinart DGB-500BK grind and brew coffee maker and have found many things we like about it. The self grinding feature is great for someone who enjoys brewing fresh coffee grounds. Some of the other reviews we read stated that it was difficult to clean but we found that wasn’t the case. All I have to do is remove the grinder basket and lid and just rinse it under some running water. Wipe it dry with a towel and you are all set. The problem I had with previous grinders is the mess I would make during the process but with this Cuisinart the unit is self contained, while still providing a uniform grinding to the beans.

I like the flavor of the coffee and found that if I follow the instruction manual I get a perfectly strong beverage. One other review I read said the coffee was weak but I’m guessing they didn’t use the recommended amount of scoops of grounds. Sure it takes some experimenting to get the right flavor but that is true of any new machine.

One negative I noticed on the DGB-500 is the shape of the bottom of the filter basket. When I brew less than 4 cups I have found that not all of the grounds will cover the bottom of the basket and this affects the strength of the pot. A cone shaped basket would seem to be a better design. I also do not like the length of the power cord as it is quite short. I always have to move the coffeemaker from the ideal place to one right next to the outlet because the cord simply won’t reach. I would like to see more length, and I’m sure most people would agree.

Overall the Cuisinart Grind and Brew works great and is quite affordable. I have always liked their products as they are a mainstay in the industry of in home coffee makers.
